Team UPscience
"Our mandate is to cultivate scientific imagination, curiosity and leadership abilities of youths, especially those who are under-represented (Inner City, Rural and Aboriginal), in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by providing innovative hands-on learning, guided mentorship and interactive networking. We work with post-secondary institutions and community science groups to centralize resources and build unique approaches to science learning. Through our programs, youths engage with mentor scientists who will provide guidance towards advanced education in Science and Technology.
The premiere project of TeamUP Science is the Interdisciplinary Science Competition (ISC). ISC is an exciting initiative that brings real science to the fingertips of under-represented youths and will positively impact the students of the Edmonton and Greater Edmonton area.
A newer initiative of TeamUP Science is the Youth Science Innovations Program (YSIP). YSIP is a mentorship program that allows university students to engage in fun science activities with junior high students. We currently work with an inner city school, Spruce Avenue, on a weekly basis."
